Blood Boil

The fifth book makes me mad. The ironic thing is that I usually don't get angry quickly. I get insulted quickly, but not mad. Now, after reading Harry Potter, I just want to smash peoples heads. I am not just referring to the detested characters in the book, but to real life people. Perhaps this anger was always there, but now I can tell it has come to the surface, and I need to deal with my rage. I get rage when people boss me around and when people are greedy.


Even though it sounds like I'm blaming all this hatred on the books, it's more like I'm glad I've located the feeling and now I'll just have to learn how to deal with it. See, since forever I was never prone to getting angry, either I would get scared and intimidated, or feel nothing. It was as if I didn't value myself enough to be able to get angry. So this may sound strange, but I'm glad I can be angry now. Every emotion has it's value. 

This Makes Me Angry

So after reading the Goblet of Fire, in my head I imagined Harry leading the wizards and teaching them how to defeat Voldemort. I imagined that he had advisers and that they were all united, but no he isn't even allowed apart of the Order of Pheonix, which is an underground group working against Voltermort. When Harry asks his friends about what's happening all they tell him is-- "Dumbledore made us promise not to tell you (Harry) anything."-Hermione.

It makes me wanna pull my hair out!!! I hate Dumbledore. He knows Harry is going to have to die soon. He knows that Voldermort is getting stronger and he knows Harry is the only one that has survived facing Voldemort. It makes me so mad. When Serius is trying to tell Harry about what is happening, Mrs. Wesley butts in and says, "He's too young." Blah blah blah. I think I'm gonna explode in anger. Dude why does Harry's life have to be so darn difficult. 


Oh and I hate the ministry even more. Either their on Voldermorts side or their on Harry's side. And they are clearly not on Harry's side!!! Meaning their the bad guys!! 


I know this book is just going to get me more angry because I haven't even got to the part where Mrs. Pink cat loving lady from the ministry comes and ruins everyone's lives. I think she is my least favorite character. So I'll have more to vent about her.


I think part of the reason why I hate all this. "Your too young, you can't do anything." Nonsense is because I had to deal with is in my own life. 

How the Goblet of Fire Should Have Ended

There I am reading the end of the Goblet of Fire. Harry has just woken up from drinking a sleeping drought, and there is yelling because the minister of Magic killed one of the culprits, who would have given evidence about He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named. Then this minister is in disbelief about Voldemort coming back. I stopped. What? He doesn't even believe? Dumbledore persuade him!

And then at that moment I wanted to change the story. I would have Harry Potter roll himself out of bed. Everyone turns their head, and go silent waiting for him to speak. He walks up to the unbelieving minister and says, "I have something to show you." He then turns to Dumbledore and says, "Could I use your memory well."

Dumbledore says, "Well it's kinda complicated. How about we use some of your winnings and we can build your own?"

So then Harry Potter takes out all his memories he has of Voldemort and the vivid encounter at the graveyard where he sees all the deatheatters. He shows anyone who wants to see what happened. It helps him get the story across without having to go through the painful memory time and time again and now people will have 'lived' through the event themselves.

The outcome is that the wizards are united in getting rid of Voldemort and the deatheatters. 

Fame Hater

I've noticed, Harry loathes getting attention and he could careless for money. That would be fine if he was a homeless, but in his situation everyone who meets him knows who he is. He barely ever has to introduce himself, and actually likes to lie about who he is. 


Just because Harry doesn't want to be famous or wealthy that doesn't mean others don't either. His childhood enemy, Draco Malfoy, hates Harry because he wishes he as popular as Harry is. He makes fun of the newspaper headlines and his friends and anything that has to do with Potter.


Ron's biggest wish is to be wealthy and complains how horrid it is to be poor. When Harry buys things from him he feels guilty and wants to be able to pay him back. It's as if Harry's 'perfect' life isn't good enough for him, and if only he could give it away he would be happy.  

That's a Big One

I finally got the fourth book. It is huge! I'm a bit over a hundred pages through, but barely dented the 734 pages! I would be about half way if I were reading The Sorcerer's Stone. The funny thing about the jump in size in books was that it was not at all gradual. Book four is the same size as book one and three combined. It's as if the author suddenly remembered she wanted to fit her story into only seven books. 

Another thing that is different other that the book size is the content and normal make up of the book. The book is all of a sudden extremely detailed. So getting to the International Quidditch Cup took a long time, and then it took a long time for the game to begin. There are all sorts of people being introduced; important wizards and witches from the Ministry.

In the last three Harry Potter books it has been formatted very much the same. It starts with Harry at the Dursleys. His cousin is described as a pig and is given a big birthday party and than Harry Potter has a birthday that his Aunt and Uncle forget about but, he is always taken away on his birthday by a friend. This book started off as a dream and Harry Potter woke up with his scar hurting, I have a feeling this might become the new norm. And now he hasn't gotten to school in the first hundred pages, which I am guessing is also a new norm. 

Things that do stay the same are how much the Dursleys hate him, how his friends find a way to make a scene at his house and how Ginny still blushes every time she see Harry.
Reading the books may take more than two days now, but I am still just as excited to see what happens. 

Silence Before the Storm

The one good thing about reading the Harry Potter series after it's hayday, is the fact that I don't have to wait years to read the next book. However, getting the books from Amazon still seems to take forever. It takes about a week for the book to ship. I finish the book in two days and then have to wait another week for the next one to arrive. I don't like all the waiting, so I've decided to just order the rest of them at the same time. 

Yesterday my brother said, "I have something to tell you. I've decided I don't like Harry Potter." He went on to say that it makes dark magic seem like fun and that harry Potter was always getting into trouble, but always got praised for it in the end. I didn't say anything -- it would ruin the story. 

JK Rowling's Best One Yet!

 Intricately Complicated

The first two Harry Potter books had slightly lame plots. The Sorcerer's Stone was about a three headed dog blocking the secret tunnel guarding a rock that gives the owner wealth and longevity. Like it's cool, but the rock was destroyed in the end. Then the Chamber of Secretes was also this secret place under the castle, where Lord Voldemort and Harry fight again. Oh yeah and Harry wins, how shocking.


This one The Prisoner of Azakban was definatly mindbogglingly awesome. In that you didn't know what was going to happen until it happened. Part of this has to do with the fact that I watched the movies, but this book was so intricately complicated that I just didn't understand how everything worked. It was brilliant. The movie was great, but the book is better.


I love how Harry and Hermione go three hours into the past to save the Hippogriff and Serius Black. It is very interesting that no one knows what happened when everyone finds out that Serius Black escapes. But Snape is angry at Harry and knows he did it. This was the first time I was actually annoyed and upset with Snape. Ever since I saw the last Harry Potter movie I wanted to give Snape a great big hug. But after reading this book he's so icky. I know he doesn't understand that Serius Black really isn't a murder, but the way he wanted Serius to die was so heartless.

Magic: Deceivingly Deceiving

When my mother saw me reading Harry Potter. She grew serious saying, "You know the Harry Potter books have satanic things in them they will look deceivingly good -- I know haven't read the books, but be careful."

The ironic thing is that a lot of people or things in the Harry Potter books are deceivingly about who is good  and who is bad. Snape is portrayed evil. Riddles book looked good. Hagrid appeared guilty. It's hard to tell, who is bad and who is good. For instance the death eaters in The Prisoner of Azkaban, they are trying to catch the criminal, (Good) but they reek havoc whenever they come near Harry.(Bad)

From watching the movies, I know Serious Black is good in the end, but he looks like a terrible character now. He killed many people, and betrayed Harry's parents -- and that's why they died. I'm not sure how it works out when he gets redeemed.

And Snape made a potion for the defense against dark arts teacher and then the next day the professor was sick. So it looks like Snape poisoned him, because Snape will do anything to teach the class. The one class that Snape teaches is about werewolfs, which is important for them to know since Serious Black is a werewolf. So they are ready when he comes.

It is safe to say, "Yes the whole concept of the Harry Potter story is that people are not always what they appear to be." I think this is a valuable thing for people to learn -- Not something to be fearful of. As for the satanic things: there is a 'dark side' those who don't value the lives of others. Who kill, steal and destroy -- just like satan. I think this is good, you see what it bad and it is bad. Voldamore does not look deceivingly good. He might have been when he was younger, but not anymore. Voldamore = Evil.

The Half Blood Snape

Snape was the reason why I decided to read all the Harry Potter books. He is just so mysterious. All through the movies there were only snidbits with Snape involved. But his intensity in those few moments were not forgotten.


In the books it's the same way; you don't know if he's good or bad or perhaps both. I defiantly found Snape to be much more interesting than Harry. I even wonder why the books weren't written with Snape's perspective. With that in mind, I do think if J. K. Rowling wanted to write a series about Snape growing up in Hogwarts it'd be a big success.

He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named

Today I was talking to a girl who was brought up similar to me, as in she wasn't allowed to watch or read Harry Potter books when she was a child. She said, "Harry Potter Books gives me nightmares, so I don't read them anymore."


I decided a couple weeks ago that the super natural things that happen in Harry Potter show an adequate representation of the powers of good and evil in the real world. Hell is real. And if Christian like myself want to explain the evil in the world and how much power Satan has. I think Christina should use the stories in Harry Potter to explain what its like.


Back to the girl who said she gets nightmares watching Harry Potter. It makes sense, who wouldn't get frightened about the powers of darkness, and hell. If there was a podcast that Satan made about hell, I'm pretty sure we would all be having nightmares. Just because in a movie you can see the faces of those who kill, lie and steal, in the movies doesn't make those in our world less evil.

Harry Potter the Orphan

Harry sure looks a lot like Frodo and he's Orphaned, too.

I've been wondering why the main characters are always orphaned. Frodo was an orphan. Eragon was an orphan. Luke Skywalker didn't have a father. And then his mother died and he couldn't save her.


It's as if the authors wanted to take a shortcut from dealing with the parent and just had them dead from the beginning. I mean it's a plus right? It make the character seem more sad and pathetic.And generates pity for the character. Then throughout the whole film the hero of the story yearns most for his parents. Family is indeed important, but do they have to be dead to be wanted?

Frodo     +     Harry

Harry Potter wants his parents most dearly; we know this when the mirror shows him. He's all excited to see his loving family and want to show Ron. Ron in turn see himself as being famous and accomplished. (Which isn't as honorable as wanting your dead parents back) Harry Potter might want his parents more than anything but both his friends seem embarrassed by theirs. Ron's father is always getting into trouble and his mother is fickle. And Hermine is embarrassed to be a mudblood.


I think this is a bad example for the children reading these books. Harry Potter has no parents, so he lives with his horrid Aunt and Uncle, which he loathes. So those reading the book will reminded the reader of how much they loath their own parents or guardians and might be inclined to think it better if their parents were dead, too. It doesn't create love or respect for authority.

Elijah Wood and Daniel Radcliffe 

I do see how it would be easier to paint a character who is free to fend for themselves. It makes for a better story. They don't have someone nagging them to do this and that -- to be safe and do the right thing. Instead the character finds out themselves -- This indeed make a more interesting tail. They learn the hard

Falling for Draco Malfoy

The Bully


In the Harry Potter stories, the bully Draco Malfoy is one of the most despised characters. He hates Harry Potter and all his friends. He hates those who aren't pure bloods and wants them dead. He buys his way into playing quiddich. And we readers just like Harry Potter hate his guts.


As I read more and more I realized that Draco never wins. He always comes second. He has his cruel jokes and evil laugh, but in the end he always loses. Harry is always one step ahead. Draco looks like a loser playing quidditch  even though his whole team is outfitted with the latest and greatest brooms they lose. There was even a time the snitch was hovering right next to Draco's head, but he was oblivious to it. I slowly stated to root for the bully, Draco, because he never wins. Even when Draco dueled against Harry. Snape whispered in his ear and they both smiles. Draco gave a snake spell. First everyone was scared and amazed, but then it turns out Harry can speak to snakes. What in the world. 


Draco is inclined to be bad, his dad is bad. They root for Voldemort, but as he never wins. I wonder is he just jealous. I know I would be. Harry Potter is Famous, but he always gets things right. I would hate him too. He's just bitter, who wouldn't be. And plus it's a rivalry. He accused for all these things he never did, such as opening the chamber of secrets. It's not fair. I would hate Drake if he actually was more than all talk. But for now, I just wanna see him win, for once. And then see after he can win, how horrible of a person he really is.

The Chamber of Secrets

Book #2
I have the second book now. I am a fourth of the way through. Reading Harry Potter is like eating cotton candy. When my sister saw me reading she said I was sick for reading the books. What I really wonder is what my mother will say. She's on vacation and she didn't like me watching the movies -- at all.


My brother claims that Harry Potter and his friends always get in trouble and therefore are a bad influence on the young readers. He says it give kids the idea that it's okay to break rules. Which I suppose is true. But I feel that most of the time Harry Potter weighs the pro's and con's and sees that fixing those things that are wrong is top priority. Which I feel is important. We shouldn't be scared into obeying. It should be our nature to do what is right. And if having to break some rules gets in the way I don't see why the rules shouldn't be broken. That is as long as they are willing to reap those consequences.


I hate how Harry Potter lies. He thinks because he's different that no one will understand. In the case when he heard voices and lied about it. It was wrong to lie, but hey no ones perfect.


I like in the book how, the children have influence. They take charge. They depend on each other, They are empowered. These are important attributes. To live a life independent and self sufficient.

The Sorcerer's Stone

Book #1


All through my childhood, I was told that I wasn't allowed to watch or read the Harry Potter series. In those days everything was black and white. I knew what was good and I knew what was bad. Harry Potter was bad. And I knew this because I was told Witches and Wizards using magic is something of the devil.


In school I looked down on other students reading Harry Potter and wrote them off from being my friend. I truly thought it was evil.


Now, years later, I look back astonish how wrong and twisted my viewpoint really was. The first time I was offered to watch one of the movies was in Denmark when I was an exchange student, I was open it see it, but I wanted to start from the beginning. So it wasn't until years later when I saw the first one, The Sorcerers Stone. I was quite excited to see the movie, but some of my family that joined me trash the film and hurt the feelings of the girl who was sharing it with us.


I was excited to see the second movie, but the girl never invited us back, even though I asked several times. It was only recently that I went through and made it my business to see them all. I enjoyed seeing the movies, (which I saw by myself) my family is slightly hostile to it still.


Ironically, my preconceived notion was that Harry Potter was attacking the faith, when in fact it mirrors Christianity. There is even an allude to the crucifiction in the last book.


I thought that I should keep a blog to keep my thoughts written down through this process and document any hating towards the books I will be reading.


So far the only hating I've had was my Aunt telling me that I was wasting a perfectly good Saturday morning reading Harry Potter.
